"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Guru and Disciple

Sri Shirdi Saibaba:

The Shishya, like the Sad-guru, is an embodiment of Jnana. The difference between the two lies in the attitude. The Sadguru is Nirguna, Sat-Chit-Ananda. He takes a human form to elevate mankind. But his real Nirguna nature is not destroyed thereby, even a bit. His widsom remains undiminished. The disciple is also of the same swarupa. But it is overlaid by the effect of the samaskaras of innumerable births in the shape of ignorance, which hides from his view that he is Shuddha Chaitanya.

That in whom reside all beings and who resides in all beings,
who is the giver of grace to all, the Supreme Soul of the universe, the limitless being:
I AM THAT. -- Amritabindu Upanishad
