"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

A few talks

Sri Ramana Maharshi

Q. The animals seem to conform to their own natural laws in spite of their environment and changes. Whereas man flouts social law and is not bound by definite system. He seems to be degenerating whereas the animals are steady. Is it not so?

M. The upanishads and scriptures say that human beings are only animals unless they are realized beings. Possibly they are worse also.

..................

Q. They say that a visit to Sages helps Self-Realization?

M. Yes, so it does.

Q. Will not my present visit to you bring it about?

M. (After a short pause) What is to be brought about? To whom? Consider; investigate. To whom is this doubt? If the source is traced the doubt will disappear.
