"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Ashtavakra Gita

King Janaka (who was listening to the Sage's words) said:
  • Truly dualism is the root of suffering. There is no other remedy for it than the realization that all this that we see is unreal, and that I am the one stainless reality, consisting of consciousness.
  • For me here is neither bondage nor liberation. The illusion has lost its basis and ceased. Truly all this exists is me, though ultimately it does not even exist in me.
  • I have recognized that all this and my body are nothing, while my true self is nothing but pure consciousness, so what is there for the imagination work on now?
  • The body, heaven and hell, bondage and liberation, and fear too, all this is pure imagination. What is there to do for me whose very nature is consciousness?

who is the giver of grace to all, the Supreme Soul of the universe, the limitless being:
