"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Thus Spake Sri Rama

The sayings in this section have been collected from various sources like the Valmiki Ramayana, Adhyatma Ramayana and the Yoga Vasishtha Ramayana.

Sri Rama tells Hanuman,

The rope alone is true, the snake is untrue. Similarly, Paramatman alone is real; this world is unreal. The latter appears as real in man's vision, hearing and thoughts, but it lasts only as long as the things seen in a dream last.

The Atman is certainly different from the body, senses, mind and prana. It is blissful, supreme, non-dual, permanent, formless, sinless and pure. The moment this realization comes to you, you are liberated.

Try to experience the identity of the paramatman and the jivatman  by listening to the wise words of your Guru with faith. His advice is, "tat twam asi" (Thou Art That). Of course the Guru's Grace is essential for you to reach that stage.

सर्वभूताधिवासं यद्भूतेषु च वसत्यपि।
सर्वानुग्राहकत्वेन तद्स्म्यहं वासुदेवः॥

That in whom reside all beings and who resides in all beings,
who is the giver of grace to all, the Supreme Soul of the universe, the limitless being:
I AM THAT. -- Amritabindu Upanishad
