"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Thus Spake Sri Rama

The sayings in this section have been collected from various sources like the Valmiki Ramayana, Adhyatma Ramayana and the Yoga Vasishtha Ramayana.
  • Lust is like a huge tree. It is covered with the creeper of desire. It has got innumerable branches. The mind that roams over them can never get the desired fruit.
  • I clearly see that such men are rare who do not become dejected when faced with danger or overcome by delusion, who do not become proud when their selfish end is attained and who are not perturbed by the glances of women. We can seldom find such men.
  • The mind is never satisfied even when it has an object of desire in its grasp, just as a pot that leaks is never filled with any quantity of water.
  • The mind cherishing ambition remains always empty. That is why it finds rest nowhere like a deer that has lost track of the herd.
  • The tendencies of the mind are always restless like waves. Failing to free itself from that restlessness, it cannot achieve composure even for a moment. Agitated by the pursuit of the object of senses, it runs in various directions.

सर्वानुग्राहकत्वेन तद्स्म्यहं वासुदेवः॥

That in whom reside all beings and who resides in all beings,
who is the giver of grace to all, the Supreme Soul of the universe, the limitless being:
I AM THAT. -- Amritabindu Upanishad
