"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Ashtavakra Gita

Sage Ashtavakra said:
  • You are one, conscious and pure, while all this is just inert non-being. Ignorance itself is nothing, so what need have you of desire to understand?
  • Kingdoms, children, wives, bodies, pleasures - these have all been lost to you, life after life, attached to them though you were.
  • Enough of wealth, sensuality and good deeds. In the forest of samsara the mind has never found satisfaction in these.
  • How many births have you not done hard and painful labor with body, mind and speech. Now at last stop!

सर्वभूताधिवासं यद्भूतेषु च वसत्यपि।
सर्वानुग्राहकत्वेन तद्स्म्यहं वासुदेवः॥

That in whom reside all beings and who resides in all beings,
who is the giver of grace to all, the Supreme Soul of the universe, the limitless being:
I AM THAT. -- Amritabindu Upanishad
