"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Thus Spake Sri Rama

The sayings in this section have been collected from various sources like the Valmiki Ramayana, Adhyatma Ramayana and the Yoga Vasishtha Ramayana.
  • Despite this hollowness of life, fools desire longevity. But that brings only sorrow in its train.
  • Just as the mice burrow into the earth inch by inch everyday, time takes away the lives of living beings minute by minute.
  • Like the cat keenly watching the mouse, death keeps watch on the life of every one.
  • The ignorant man thinks that as far as he is concerned, night and day will come and go till eternity. Immersed in sense enjoyments, he does not see the march of time.
  • Like the water contained in an unburnt pot, man's life is getting extinguished every second. Enemies like diseases catch hold of man's body and destroy it. Old age like a tigress jumps upon it and attacks it. Death is always watching when to come and take possession of it.

सर्वभूताधिवासं यद्भूतेषु च वसत्यपि।
सर्वानुग्राहकत्वेन तद्स्म्यहं वासुदेवः॥

That in whom reside all beings and who resides in all beings,
who is the giver of grace to all, the Supreme Soul of the universe, the limitless being:
I AM THAT. -- Amritabindu Upanishad
