"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Thus Spake Sri Rama

The sayings in this section have been collected from various sources like the Valmiki Ramayana, Adhyatma Ramayana and the Yoga Vasishtha Ramayana.
  • The ocean produces and destroys a series of waves in a single operation. Likewise Time maintains on its bosom the flux of creation - originating our species now, destroying it next moment, and creating another, endlessly. The numberless worlds are like falling figs, the innumerable living things are like mosquitoes and Time is like the fig tree that bears the figs.
  • O Lakshmana! Paramatman and Jivatman are the two names of the one self-same thing. There is no difference between the two.
  • Only the ignorant think that they are different. You should give up pride, egoism, wickedness and crookedness. You should never care for the criticism of others.
  • Neither should you find fault with any one. Control your mind, speech and body, and never be perturbed. Daily do service to your Guru with devotion and mind. Do not be slack in doing good actions even for a single day.

सर्वभूताधिवासं यद्भूतेषु च वसत्यपि।
सर्वानुग्राहकत्वेन तद्स्म्यहं वासुदेवः॥

That in whom reside all beings and who resides in all beings,
who is the giver of grace to all, the Supreme Soul of the universe, the limitless being:
I AM THAT. -- Amritabindu Upanishad
