"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Thus Spake Sri Rama

The sayings in this section have been collected from various sources like the Valmiki Ramayana, Adhyatma Ramayana and the Yoga Vasishtha Ramayana.
  • Timely doing of good actions and obeying the age-old laws are especially necessary to gain mukti.
  • But if these good deeds are done with a sense of ego, they only bind you to this world. So to gain knowledge you should work without the least trace of pride.
  • Pure knowledge is that which kills all desires and attachments. Any work with a particular motive behind it should be given up, it only binds you to the cycle of births and deaths. It is harmful for your attaining real knowledge.
  • Like the fowler spreading his net, egoism creates various fascinating illusions in the minds of men. Terrible grief arises from egoism. It is the Rahu for the moon of peace; it is like frost for a bed of lotuses.
  • As long as a man is egotistical, he is bound to suffer. And when there is no egoism, there is no suffering. So the best course is to remain without egoism.

सर्वानुग्राहकत्वेन तद्स्म्यहं वासुदेवः॥

That in whom reside all beings and who resides in all beings,
who is the giver of grace to all, the Supreme Soul of the universe, the limitless being:
I AM THAT. -- Amritabindu Upanishad
