"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Truth is Inexplicable

Sri Ramana Maharshi

  • Silence is the true upadesa. It is the perfect upadesa. It is suited only for the most advanced seeker. The others are unable to draw full inspiration from it. Therefore they require words to explain the Truth. But Truth is beyond words. It does not admit of explanation. All that is possible to do is only to indicate It.
  • What is the sarupa (form) and arupa (formlessness) of the mind? When you wake up from sleep a light appears, that is the light of the Self passing through mahat tattva. It is called cosmic consciousness. That is arupa. The light falls on the ego and is reflected therefrom. Then the body and the world are seen. This mind is sarupa. The objects appear in the light of this reflected consciousness. This light is called jyoti.
