Sri Siddharameshwar Maharaj

God says, "Jivas do not know the happiness that is within Me, and they become enticed by spiritual powers." A person addicted to eating meat left that habit for four days but as the desire was still there, he started it again. Money earned in worldly business is not useful in spiritual attainment. The value is not the same. The value of spiritual attainment is much greater. One who enters spiritual life with ambition will not gain Self-Knowledge. One who concentrates on the Self without any expectation attains Knowledge very easily. If you stand in front of a mirror with your back to it, how can you see your face? You will see your face only if you are facing the mirror. When your attention is diverted towards powers, how can you attain the state of Paramatman?
Do not become a saint in order to get anything in the world. Be a saint only for the sake of being a saint. If devotion is not tainted by any desire only then can you attain THAT. When a devotee is united with Me, he does not care for powers. Only such a devotee attains My state. Inner bliss is possible only if the service to the Guru is done without any selfish intent. One who has given over his body only for devotion to God, and who is devoted to the Guru, has no need for spiritual powers. The only way of attaining liberation is through "desirelessness". That is the only way to true liberation. There must not be even an iota of selfishness, or any wish to get anything. The aspirant must be completely desireless. Just as a man has no desire to wear a woman's dress, so it is that when the devotee is without desire, he attains the state of Paramatman.
