"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

There is only One; No Second

Sri Siddharameshwar Maharaj

The Self (Atman) is One, alone. He is prior to all, only One, totally "complete". If anything else were to come, from where would it come? It could come only by destroying the One. There is no place for a second thing to enter. The one Self is fully "Totally Existing". No "second" is possible. The Supreme self, Paramatman says that He is everywhere fully. There is only one "Authority". If any other were even to slightly enter, His power would be reduced to that extent. No second has ever been able to enter. If it is felt that some other has entered, this is only delusion. It is only a doubt. In the totality of doubtlessness, doubt is the second thing. That doubt multiplies and becomes a mind full of doubts, and the Illusion of the world appears. By remembering the Self, the vision of Paramatman is confirmed, doubt is removed, and the oneness of Existence is proved. There is only One Form, One State, and One Power that exists eternally. When you are sure that there is only One, then there is no "second".

In all the three times of the day, the morning, at noon, and in the evening, the Sun is the same. There are three times of day, but the sun is only one. Really, day and night have no reality. The sun says, "I do not know either morning or evening. You do not know me as I am, therefore you are measuring me." Where are the seven days? Where do they go? The Sun dies not know any day as Monday etc. Your imagination has decided all these things. The Sun knows neither east nor west. As we have become small, we are experiencing this. There is not even a tiny space that is without Me. All is Consciousness. The occupant and that which is occupied are not different, just as the earth and wall are not different. The "Life-Energy" is called Inner-Mind. There is no power other than it that can say anything. Mind, intellect, consciousnesses,  (elements of the Inner-Mind) are all the play of my "True-Nature".
