"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Manonasa

Sri Ramana Maharshi

From Sri Annamalai Swami's Diary Extracts

Maurice Frydman: Sometimes when I meditate I enter a state in which I don't know anything. Is this state manolaya or manonasa?

B: In both manolaya and manonasa questions will not arise.

F: What is manonasa?

B: Remaining permanently as one is without the rising of any doubt or thought such as, 'Nothing is known', or 'Something is known' alone is manonasa.

सर्वभूताधिवासं यद्भूतेषु च वसत्यपि।
सर्वानुग्राहकत्वेन तद्स्म्यहं वासुदेवः॥

who is the giver of grace to all, the Supreme Soul of the universe, the limitless being:
I AM THAT. -- Amritabindu Upanishad
