"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Self Does Not Vary

Sri Saradamma

Q: I have sat with several saints and holy people. Sometimes I feel peace and sometimes not. If all these people are in the same state, why does the peace one can experience vary from saint to saint?

S: If these people you had met had all realized the Self, then the power would have been the same in each case. The Self does not vary, it is always the same. If you feel a lot of power coming from a particular saint it is possible that you have a special connection with him. Two equally mature devotees may go to a Guru and one may feel his power and the other may not. The one who feels the power is probably destined to be a devotee of that particular Guru, whereas the other devotee's destiny lies elsewhere.
