"The very first step in understanding what this is all about is giving up the concept of an active, volitional 'I' as a separate entity and accepting the passive role of perceiving and functioning as a process." - Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Surrender Solves Problems

Sri Saradamma

Some people come here because they want their desires to be fulfilled. They come to Swamy (Lakshmana Swamy) with their personal problems and expect him to solve them all. Sometimes they come to me also. Several women have approached me and asked me to bless them so that they could have a baby. If people try to tell Swamy about their problems during darshan he generally ignores them and remains silent. If they are really persistent he usually tells them that all their problems are self-imposed because they have put limitations on their true nature. I don't mind listening to the complaints of such people; I like to give love to everyone. Only if I see in their eyes that they are really bad people do I refuse to see them. Neither Swamy nor I do anything consciously to help these people, but if their devotion is strong, then help may come automatically.

When people bring their personal problems to us it only proves that they have not really surrendered. If they had really surrendered to us, body and mind, then there would be no room for any complaints at all.
