"The mind, remaining the same, knows the different characteristics of the eye such as blindness, dullness and sharpness. This also applies in case of the ear, skin etc." - Verse 3
Excerpt from the commentary:
The same pair of eyes see different forms and colors, and the eyes themselves undergo various changes. The mind registers all the changes but remains the same itself. I know that I am blind and see nothing or that my vision is blurred. The mind knows the different conditions but itself does not become blind, blurred or swollen. The same rule applies to the other sense organs.
The sense inputs are received by the five sense organs and are all known to the same mind. The mind does not become blind, deaf or itchy due to the conditions of the eye, ear or skin. The Seer remains unaffected by the characteristics of the seen.
The mind undergoes modifications. Its seer remains the same.
